Where it all began
In a little workshop on a narrow-cobbled street in the Alpine lakeside town of Annecy back in 1947, Georges Salomon and his parents François and Jeanne adapted wood saw blade machinery to make metal edges for skis, and the legendary brand of Salomon was born.
All of the original brains behind the brand, including Georges, were trained as engineers. In the years to come Georges would spend his days wandering through his factory and meeting rooms, always with time for the factory workers, whose ideas were often integrated into the production process. His standards were exacting, and sometimes terse. Once when he shook a prototype he heard a rattle exclaiming "No one is going to put my name on that!" and he threw it out the window. This became known to the design team as the dreaded "clickity-clack", the instant rejection of what may have represented up to five years of work in product development!
Salomon diversified into its first footwear products with a ski boot -the SX90 launched in 1979 and in 1992 Salomon ventured into summer sports with hiking shoes. Today Salomon offers a full range of footwear, apparel, gear and equipment from trail running and hiking to skiing and snowboarding. To this day, the brand headquarters and Design Centre are still based in Annecy, within easy reach of the mountains where they can test prototype products in development with athletes.
Salomon has a long-standing history in developing progressive gear focused on new technologies and craftsmanship, to enable you to freely enjoy and challenge yourself in the great outdoors.
